Moissanite was first discovered in 1893 by French scientist Henri Moissan in a meteorite crater, which is why it is often called the gemstone born from the stars. Natural moissanite is extremely rare, so the moissanite used in jewelry today is grown in a lab. It is silicon carbide, a distinct mineral graded D-E color, VVS1/VVS2 in this collection.
