A single 12x8mm lab-created D Color VVS1 oval, cut to Excellent grade, held in six claws above a band that parts at the shoulders and sweeps up on either side. The split leaves an open gallery under the stone, so light reaches it from below as well as above. Moissanite rates 9.25 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, just below diamond at 10, so it resists scratches and stays brilliant through daily wear.
A split shank is a band that divides into two strands as it reaches the setting. The two strands frame the stone and draw the eye up to it, and the open space between them keeps a large stone sitting light on the finger. It is one of the oldest ways of framing a single stone.
